About BeechesSMS and SMS4SKL

Recognising the weaknesses evident in the traditional ways of managing communications in an emergency (e.g. 'cascade telephone call plans'), Beeches Consulting's SMS solution was originally developed for use by our own consultants to support the rapid contact management of employees and stakeholders when testing or invoking business continuity plans for clients.

The traditional approach to contacting staff in an emergency has been for nominated department / divisional heads to initiate phone calls, in a cascade fashion, to people within their areas of responsibility. This approach highlighted a number of flaws especially related to the time and complexities associated with contacting everyone and accounting for their whereabouts when the number of employees involved is more than a handful.

A typical organisation with a large number of employees could reasonably expect a call cascade to take hours to reach all the way through the organisation (and that often assumes the phone numbers are up-to-date). Try changing the message half-way through or reporting back with who knows what at a particular point in time and the problem increases hugely! What happens when a key manager is not available? Also, cascade communication approaches are obviously one directional and offer little in the way of support for organisations to regularly test or verify contact details which is another major overhead in keeping plans up to date.

The BeechesSMS solution generated so much interest that we now offer this as an integral option within our business continuity plans. It is available in 2 variants, BeechesSMS and SMS4SKL and provides a simple way to notify a complete organisation almost instantly, as well as providing 2-way communications and the ability to easily check contact details on a regular basis.

SMS4SKL

SMS4SKL has the same features as BeechesSMS, however a school does not typically have to re-input all of their contact details when using SMS4SKL for the first time as it is specifically designed to interface with existing school systems and can therefore transfer existing contact information automatically.

The SMS4SKL version is also designed to cater for pupils who might belong to many different groups and whose parents you might wish to contact in both an emergency or about routine matters. For example, a pupil could be a member of the following: "All School", "Year 5a", "Class A", "Football Club", "School Trip", "Absent Today", "Repeat Absent" etc.
